About Me

My name is Justin DeCotiis and I am the gardener behind Root to Harvest Gardeners. Some of my earliest memories are playing in the dirt.  Whether it was making mud pies in the yard, making a “parking lot” using dirt in the driveway, or just plain old digging, I was ALWAYS in the dirt.  I like to say that I’ve inherited my “green” thumb from my grandmother, who taught me to love working with plants, to value their quirks, and to give them the compassion they need to grow.  

I have been a vegetable gardener for over 10 years, growing all sorts of crops in my little yard, feeding my family healthy nutritious food a few steps from my kitchen.  I have a B.A. in Biological Sciences from Rutgers University, a M.A in Science Education from Rutgers University, and I am currently an AP Environmental Science teacher at Manalapan High School.
